Article about Juane Johnson

I found this article about Juane Johnson, who disappeared from Piscataway, New Jersey in 1998. She was 23 at the time and had a daughter, who is now 18. The daughter was raised by Juane’s parents and will soon graduate high school.

There isn’t a whole lot of information about Juane’s disappearance — it looks like she was just gone. She was having some personal problems, but there doesn’t seem to be any evidence that she just took off. No evidence of foul play either.

I wish I knew how her name was pronounced. Maybe like Juan, or maybe like June, or Joo-on, or Joo-ann, or what?

Maybe like Juana? Female version of a male name?

I’d say it Juana too, just because Juana is a moderately common name and I’ve seen e in names pronounced a before. (Witness Michaele Salahi.)

    Doesn’t look like Juana. I’m guessing Joo-wayne.

Agreeing with Princess again: Joo-wayne, based on it easily being heard that way if one imagines the sentence, “Juane, girl, you get on down here and do your lessons.”

I’d like to imagine this one fitting into a classification of missing persons that, upon reading the circumstances of which, one hears “Twilight Zone” music piped in, with possibly a UFO soaring off into the distance for good measure. But I’m afraid Juane’s circumstanes got the best of her and, all too prosaically, she went toward the ocean and she stepped off a pier.

Piscataway is actually in western NJ, pretty far from the ocean.

I wonder if her daughter has a relationship with her father? If not, why? and is he or was he a suspect?

Her name is pronounced Ja-Nay. She was a very good friend of mine.

I am her cousin. We had a memorial for her yesterday. Unfortunately she was murdered.

Sorry. Didn’t read comments first. I’m so sorry for your loss. I advocate for missing and unidentified persons. Praying for JUSTICE! Grieve your loss but in due time you must let her go to rest in peace. My grandfather was missing for 40 yrs. A few days before I found him deceased, an Angel told my sister Grandpa WAS NOT resting in peace! I was horrified that Mommas guilt and not letting him go, had not allowed him to do so. After our denial, anger, etc.we had to let him go. William Ray Peters and Momma are together again. Both resting in heavenly peace. God hold you and comfort you in your time of great sorrow …
