What is so compelling about my identity?

Identity theft strikes again — someone has been using my credit card in Oklahoma and California. (Michael told me it was probably me and I just forgot about it.) So the card company of course blocked my card and I didn’t find this out until I was in the grocery store attempting to purchase more orange pop. I left empty-handed, puzzled and embarrassed. And sit at home, pop-less and cursing identity thieves. Muttergrumble.

Hmmm … have you checked your computer for viruses/spyware?

      I did. I’m clean.

You do seem to have very bad luck alright!

Seems to me you wouldnt forget a trip to OK or CA.
Its very strange your ID would get stolen twice so close together. If I was you I’d look at my nearest and dearest.

None of my nearest and dearest have been to either of those states lately.

Was it used for mail order goods from OK and CA? I live in New England. One time I was driving alone in Florida, dark out, needed gas. Card rejected at pump, BECAUSE I had been ordering plants from an out-of state specialty nursery. Big Brother saw the charges and attempted to protect me. It was extremely upsetting and I asked them NOT to give me that level of security- I don’t remember how I resolved it but I DESPISE debit and credit cards & Big Brother!

No, I haven’t ordered anything recently except for this one thing from Utah.

When I was vacationing in Ireland with my mom, her credit card got cut off and she had to call them to explain she was on vacation and that was why they were getting international charges. After that, whenever she went on vacation to someplace far away, she called them in advance. My friend Jeff regularly gives his card number to people (including me; I must have rung up about $1,000 on his card, and he paid it all) and has told his credit card company not to pay attention to charges from all around the country.

I always call my credit union before I go on vacation. Would hate to have the card rejected at a hotel.

hope all works out. If I had your address I could mail you the pop….

Thank you, but Michael bought me some.

It would probably cost many times more to mail pop than the pop is worth. It’s very heavy.

Some moron stole mine a while back and rented movies with it and bought some trifling $18 item off of ebay with it. The Blockbuster charge is what caught my eye, and my card company actually was REALLY good about getting everything all straightened out. (My card is through AAA). The bad thing was I had just memorized the # to where I didn’t have to get it out every time I wanted to order something online……..sigh

You need to throw a pitch fit with your credit card company and make sure that a) they are taking steps to protect you and b)this isn’t a repeating thing because of them. Also, call your local SSA and make sure it isn’t a complete theft. It will give you another migrane and take an era, but it is worth it. Make sure the theft isn’t coming from within the CC company. It can happen. Some of this might have come off of the previous virus and issues you had, could have even been pulled by someone commissioned to fix it (yes, I am paranoid, but better to cover all bases.) I went to college with a girl with the same name as you, but no H in her first name. It could be a common name computer program running thing too. Lots of maybes but no answers here, sorry. But make sure that your SSN is not compromised. That can and will be a beyotch.
