Two women named Robin

I found this article about the 1998 disappearance of 28-year-old Robin Michelle Smith from Mississippi. She and her ex-boyfriend had a troubled relationship and they broke up only a few weeks before she vanished, so naturally he’s seen as a person of interest. But there is very little evidence to implicate anyone in her case and the police seem to be pretty tight-lipped about it. Robin was last seen on her way home from work. Her car was found abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot two months after her disappearance. She left behind two little kids.

And, a month-old article courtesy of Unsolved in the News, about another Robin, this time Robin Renea Abrams. She’s been missing for twenty years. Her ex-boyfriend is considered a possible suspect in the case. He isn’t named in the article, but the Charley Project casefile names him.

The late Charles Fort (from whence the term “fortean”) postulated, upon pondering the cases of several missing persons of the same name, if an Unseen Being wasn’t perhaps collecting persons of that name; the same could hold true here with the two Robins, though I think the smart money in both cases is on significant-male-other involvement. As it is in most cases involving significant male others.

Robin is not such an uncommon name for women. But get this: back in the old MPCCN days — before my tenure — there were two black teenage girls listed from New York City who were both named Carlina Francher. They were definitely different people — different dates of birth, different boroughs, didn’t really resemble each other — but wtf. Jennifer Marra actually put a note in each casefile noting the existence of the other Carlina and saying as far as she knew, the girls were not related and neither were their disappearances.

I’d say that definitely an Unseen Being was involved with the dual Carlina Franchers. Perhaps highly collectible.

    I don’t know a single Carlena, but I do know a Carleen.
Did they ever find the Carlenas?

I guess so. They’re no longer listed as missing.

BTW I see you have Jennifer Enyart up on your site. How come she’s called a runaway if she’s 26? She doesn’t look any 26 in her pic, she looks like 12.

Whoops. She’s 26 now. She was 16 when she ran away. Will fix.
