Goldie Thornsberry identified, two arrested

This just in: skeletal remains found in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2000 have been identified as Goldie Thornsberry, a 65-year-old woman missing from Fayetteville, Arkansas since January 1996. Two suspects have been arrested for her murder: her own daughter, Rita Flowers, and Rita’s former husband, Raymond Douglas. They lived with Goldie and have been suspects in her disappearance since March 1996, when investigators discovered they’d forged her name to get access to her bank accounts. They pleaded guilty to the forgeries, but the missing persons case didn’t go anywhere until now.

To hinder identification, Rita and Raymond apparently pulled her teeth and cut off her hands and one leg. No wonder Goldie’s body took so long to identify!

Shame…her own daughter…her own son-in-law… and for nothing but greed.

    Some people are just scum.

Do you know if they were also cashing her social security checks, if she was collecting social security benifits? There have been more than a few cases of children and spouses hiding the death of a person to keep the checks coming.

Class acts, those. It’s unfortunate that it seems to happen a LOT, with missing elders and UID’s. And yes, it does usually seem to be about money. Funny how I could forget to pay a parking ticket and get hounded forever, but someone can cash a SS check for DECADES and no one notices. Kind of makes me glad that SS will be out when I retire. Makes you wonder.

That is disgusting as HELL! Couldn’t they just have atleast shot her instead of pulling all her friken teeth WTF?
Im sorry but thats really disgusting. Why would her own child do that too her?????
I hope they rot in jail, then hell.

My feeling is that the teeth were pulled and her hands cut off after she was dead. I don’t see any purpose to yank her teeth out and cut her hands off while she was still alive. I don’t suppose anyone would be docile while that was happening to them.

My name is Nicole Thornsberry. This woman was my great grandmother. The suspects in this article were acquitted of all charges in the death of my great grandmother. And yes they are that evil to have done those things to her alive this tragedy has torn my family apart.

This is all sad. Does anyone know of any sites that tell about her family….other children she had? I met someone who told me of her mother disappearing and her sister and brother-in-law were suspects but they could never prove it. It happened around this time in Arkansas as well. She was very upset about not knowing what happened to her mother, and if this is the same family I hope she can feel some ease now.

Jen, if you just type in ‘Goldie Thornsberry’ in google, you will be able to find out the names of Goldie’s kids. Besides Reta, there is a daughter Debbie and another, Barbie. There is also a son, but I cannot remember his name to save my life.

Goldie was my mothers cousin. She was always a conversation at family reunions and telephone calls. We wondered what had happened to her.May she finally rest in peace.

Goldie was actually the mother of an old friend of mine. I know that the family is relieved to know what happened, even tho they have ‘known’ all along. This case got lots of attention over the years, but nothing ever came of it, till now. Sad, sad people that could do such a thing. May they rot.

Rita use to work as a receptionist at a dentist office in LR. It was close to where her mother’s body was dumped in the old well in Panky town.
Rita stole thousands of dollars from her employer. She lost her job and was told by the dentist to pay him back. No jail time. Hmmm is what I say.
Rita had told everyone she was an only child. She also had a set of twins show up at her home and ask her husband, where was their mother? Husband was quite surprised to have this happen.
Rita was the type of person, no one, would have imagined her doing something like this.

I’m glad Goldie is now buried in a place of peace. God rest her soul.

I know enough about this family to know that this daughter is well capable of this type of thing. Time will tell.
