Possible hiatus coming

My rats’ cage sits on a shelf above my desk. A few days ago I had filled their water bottle and was trying to reattach it to the side of the cage when I dropped it and it landed on my computer keyboard and knocked the 5 key out of place. The key still works, obviously, but just about every time I touch it — and, often, if I touch adjacent keys — the cover slides off and it’s very annoying. At least it’s not a terribly essential key — not like, say, E.

I called my boyfriend and my father for advice about possibly trying to glue the thing back on. They predicted massive disaster and warranty voiding if I should attempt such a thing, so I gave up on that idea. Experiments with double-sided tape have come to nothing.

The computer remains under warranty for another month or so. I expect if I bring it in, they will take it away for a week or two like they did when they had to replace my dead screen. I’m trying to decide if this problem is worth the trouble of not having a computer for that length of time. This is more than a little inconvenient, because I’ve started taking a university history class and it would be nice to have my own computer to write papers on and stuff.

Thoughts, anyone?

Why not buy a new keynoard? They come quite cheap and repairing is usually not worth while from a financial point of view.

If your laptop is currently under warranty, then I would take it in. The problem may be deeper than you think and could cost you more than you can easily afford if you attempt to have it repaired after the warranty expires. Besides, when I am in the zone typing away, a little thing like that would probably throw me off my game.

In the meantime, do something else. Read a book from your exhaustive book list or watch one of those movies that are so bad that they’re good such as “Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death” (true title. Look it up at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094834 ) or research platypus venom, which I didn’t know existed. It won’t kill humans, but it hurts like heck and apparently, morphine doesn’t work with it for some reason.

I hear about weird stuff and I have to research it. The later might be kind of tough to do without your laptop, but there are libraries.

Nah, you will probably just read a book or work one of the innumerable side projects you have going on, depending on how long it takes for them to get your laptop up and running.

Do you find your depression comes in waves? Like fine for several months then depressed?

Sometimes. More often fine for several hours and then I crash in a second. But I’m much better now. I haven’t had to have my meds adjusted since like October, and haven’t had a real crisis since July, and as that was the result of the rape I don’t think that counts.

I think it counts…that is what I was referring to. Just wondering, since I’m going through the same thing…but the trauma was longer in my past, but wondering if you (since you “understand”) experience the same thing.

    Thanks, Justin!
There was a Saturday when I spent the whole day reading about some gruesome murder case that I just couldn’t get away from. At the end of that day I stayed up to watch a documentary about it on TV. When it was over I was about to go to bed, but found out “Killer Klowns from Outer Space” was coming on next, so I decided to stay up a little longer. I laughed all the way through it. The therapy did me a lot of good. It got me out of the dark mood I was in.
Sometimes Justin comes up with some really good advice.
