All right, no more apologies

It has finally been pounded through my thick skull that I do not owe anybody anything and I do not need to feel bad or apologize if I don’t update for a few days. So I have decided to cease doing so.

Of course, explanations are another thing. “Hey, y’all, I’m writing this from an internet cafe in Kathmandu. I’m going to be climbing Mount Everest, and it doesn’t have WiFi, so I’ll be gone for a couple of weeks. But I’ll be back soon, assuming I survive.” If I need to be gone for an extended period, I’ll let you know. But there will be no more, “I’m very sorry, but I can’t update for a few weeks because I’m getting married, and my husband and I would like to spend some time together after the wedding. Please forgive our selfishness in the face of the plight of missing people everywhere.” No more of that.

(I’m not getting married, by the way.)

I visited a Greek Orthodox priest once to learn about the religion for a story I was writing. On the way home I got lost and called Mom to ask for directions. She was having lunch with my sister at the time. When my sister heard that I had been to see a priest, she concluded that I was

      A) Converting to Roman Catholicism
      so I could
      B) Marry my boyfriend, whom she hates.

She was very concerned and told Mom to have a serious talk with me, as I should not take such steps without at least consulting someone in the family. And all I wanted was directions! It wasn’t even the right kind of priest! Not so much jumping to conclusions as pole-vaulting.

….You see things the right way!! You don’t owe us an apology for not updating, although I will admit I love the updates, but you do what is right for yourself!!

….enjoy your time doing other things…we’ll be here for you the whole time!

Ditto for me, Meaghan, what Danielle said.

Pole vaulting. Funniest thing ever. I will use that to deal with all my overreaching relatives. Can’t wait to see your blog on Angie Lynn Daley, that’s my area! Oh, and so much more! Sigh. All these cold cases give me hope for the future…

    Meaghan,
It is WE who owe YOU – thanks for all you do. However often you update is fine, you favor us with your efforts. Apologies? Don’t even give it a second thought – you do so much, and I for one am grateful.
