I just got an email from someone connected with a missing woman I have on Charley. The woman has a certain tattoo, a fairly distinctive one, and this person wants me to remove the information. The tattoo is, as far as I know, the only distinguishing characteristic she has — I know of no other tattoos, scars, etc., and she’s quite an ordinary-looking woman. The individual (a PI hired by the woman’s family) says he wants to weed out false sightings by withholding the tattoo info.

I can see his reasoning but I am uneasy about this. I wrote back and asked him if he was 100% sure he wanted the information removed, because if she is dead the tattoo would be very useful to identify her body if it should turn up somewhere far away. He’s a PI so I suppose he already knows this. I hope he doesn’t jump down my throat about it, but I felt obliged to point this out. If he insists I suppose I will remove the information.

I’ve gotten requests before to remove info, and written about them on here. Mostly stuff about an MP’s mental illness or criminal record, or a photo of them that’s an obvious mug shot. No one has ever written to me about a tattoo before.

I think that’s strange too, but I guess I see both sides.

Do you have a photograph of the tattoo? I would say for example that if it is a tattoo of a horse, just say it is a tattoo of a horse, not that it was on it’s hind legs or was a unicorn or colored or was just a tattoo of the horses head, etc.

I believe most LE agencies have a tattoo database, especially for people who have been in prison.

I would be interested in what the PI says if he responds to you.

I don’t have a photo of the tattoo. It’s a tattoo of a name — an uncommon name, and not the MP’s.

OK, I can see how that could be a problem.

I heard back from him. He doesn’t think she’s dead, but just in case he’s sent her info to a lot of ME’s all around the country. I will remove the info now.

I recently emailed upset about my mothers page. I recant most of what I said, I guess being angry about seeing that someone I have never even met can get a photo of her when I can’t may not be the way to get her found. There are two more things about her that need to be published I will be happy to provide all information requested, I wont be upset about it being published either.
