Surprising recovery

I received an email today from a relative of Seif Benkailly Mahssen, who held the distinction of being the oldest family abduction case profiled on the Charley Project. He was less than a year old when his Yemeni father ran off with him back in 1958. Frankly, I didn’t expect they would ever find him. But Seif’s relative says he’s been found alive and well in Yemen! I’m sure his mother must be so glad. I hope Seif is willing to reconnect with her.

She ever get back to you about that?

Aye. She said all the appropriate authorities had been notified and Saif was going to take DNA testing to prove his claim and establish American citizenship.

Hoo Boy. He is going to have to undergo some serious and intensive background checks by Homeland Security if he was raised in Yemen before the State Department allows him back in this country. He has easily a couple of years before that happens.

I have a friend who has a friend, a woman, born and raised in the US, of parents born and raised in the US, who had to fight for six months to get a passport because her last name sounded Middle Eastern. It’s really sad.

It’s always nice to hear when a missing person is found alive, as that doesn’t happen often, especially when missing more than a day or two.
    Happy Holidays!
