About six weeks ago, a woman contacted me about a missing boy on my website. It was classified as a family abduction and she was listed as the abductor. She politely explained that she did, in fact, have custody of the boy, and he was getting a lot of flack at school and stuff about being listed as an abducted child online, and could I please remove his casefile? After verifying her statements, I complied.
Well, over the next month (last time last week) she sent me increasingly irate emails (bold print, capital letters, etc) demanding I remove her son from my website. I tried to explain I already had, but she seemed deaf to my explanations.
Finally, yesterday she clarified herself and I found out what all the fuss was about: she thinks for some reason that I run the 411 Gina site. Her son is still listed as missing on there. WTF? I have nothing to do with that site. I don’t even know the person who runs it. You’d think the @charleyproject.org in my email address might be some indication of which site I am actually in charge of.
So I have informed her that she is yelling at the wrong person, and I hope that takes care of the problem.
My cousin worked at a software company ten years ago as the IT guy and webmaster. The company website had links to some vendors and customers websites. An older co-worker started bugging him about how there were mistakes and grammatical errors on other companies websites and that my cousin should fix that since he’s the “webmaster”. Eventually they started fighting over email and his supervisor had to explain very slowly to the co-worker that he can’t fix other people’s websites.
Someone wrote me once thinking I was the owner of a blog I had commented on. I have no idea why she thought this, considering the only way to get my e-mail from a comment is to click on my name, go to my site, and then click the e-mail link. And she managed to remove the cc address there and still claimed ignorance of my actual site. Go figure.
Some things just don’t click for people. When I was working as a cashier at Taco Bell eons ago, I once gave a person change with a two dollar bill and she kept insisting that I didn’t give her enough change until after going down each thing on her receipt, she said that I had only given her a single dollar bill. Until she looked at it and realized what it was. Then she got mad at me for “messing with her” by giving her the “strange” money and said she wanted singles. I gave them to her and she stomped out. As far as I can tell from her accent, she was from the United States. Even the other customers rolled their eyes over her behavior.
Why was he listed as missing and why was she listed as the abductor if she was indeed had his custody? Maybe it´s my English, but I´m not getting it?
I’m not really sure. Some kind of pissing match between two countries, I think. (He and his mom live in Israel.) The NCMEC has removed his casefile now.
Hi, Meaghan. I think what you are doing is a great thing and I hope no one ever tries to bully or intimidate you into thinking otherwise. I have a question, though. Has Patricia Freeman-Wright been found? I’ve noticed after going on the 411 Gina that she has been listed as found, as well as the fact her casefile has been removed from your site. I’m sorry to ask you like this, but I’ve tried to see if she was found alive or not and came up with nothing.
I think she has been found, but I don’t know any details. I regularly go through my site and purge any cases that appear to have been resolved. Sometimes I accidentally purge a still-active case, in which case I just put it back up.
Some people are terrifyingly stupid. It never ceases to amaze me.
I worked retail for over a decade. I can back that up any day. But the internet with its “anonymous” to hide behind really is the cherry on top. It’s an excuse for everything.
I’m sure you all know this by now but http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1228820/Body-missing-girl-5-U-S-police-sold-sex-mother.html
Meaghan, I wanted to ask you of Amy Loretta Abell, she is listed missing at your site and some sites also, other sites say she has been found, Help find the missing site found a new photo so I posted her as found at my litle forum. Do you know anything about it?
I know nothing about it. I’ll try to see what I can find out, which probably won’t be anything.
I also read that she was found
Yes, I´we seen that too on some of the sites but she is listed on others, I would love if there was of database of found people that everyone could see, it would save lots of work.
Ok thank you. 🙂
HI Meaghan,
How are you doing? I have suffered with depression, on meds, but still have bouts. Sexual abuse as a kid is why. I’m doing good now, but was thinking of you.
So did that woman ever contact you again after you sent her the e-mail letting her know she was barking up the wrong tree?
Not that I remember.
