Syllania Edwards found deceased

I just got a recovery notice from the NCMEC saying Syllania Terene Edwards has been found dead. I knew nothing about it so I Googled it and found this article. She is the eighth mesa victim! This is very odd. All the other victims thus far have been white or Hispanic local prostitutes in their twenties or thirties. Syllania was black and a runaway from Lawton, Oklahoma. She was fifteen years old when she disappeared in August 2003. The article says she was in foster care and hadn’t seen her mother since she was five.

That’s eight down, three to go.

Since she was a runaway, she could have turned to prostitution to earn money. Just speculating.

People magazine has an article a few pages long on missing children, teens and a young woman. They are cases we aleady know about, but it’s good missing people are getting attention.
I read the article and there are a few details not already published.
The missing people are on the cover, so the edition is easy to find.

Serial killers may target specific types, but most of them won’t turn down something that falls in their lap. My guess is that Syllania just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I suppose we will never know unless her killer is caught and gives the details to keep from getting the death penalty.

This girl could have looked older than her true age, nowadays it can be pretty hard to guess peoples ages, maybe prostitutes was what he wanted but not women in any specific age.

Here is an article on a TV site, doesn’t require registration or too many unwanted ads:

Also, the population density might account for why most of the victims are white/hispanic. There is not a large black population in the Albuquerque metro area vs. white/hispanic population.

Why was she not reported missing? Watching a Dateline about the murders now, May, 2014.

I received the flyer of Sylanie Edwards as a missing 15 year old in the mail, I made calls and learned that she was a cousin, who was named after my grandmother. I knew she had been murdered, and somehow knew she was in the West Mesa burial pit. I pray that her soul will find or has found rest, She was not loved by her mother, who was from Texas and I assume she went into prostitution to survive, after leaving the foster care facility.

First and foremost, I’d like to express my condolences. May Syllania and the rest of the women rest in peace. I have faith that they have passed on and are resting peacefully.

I read through your comment and am wondering if it’s fine with you to talk more about Syllania, or as you’ve mentioned, Sylanie. I’ve been researching the case and haven’t been able to find any background about Syllania at all. Since you’re a relative of hers, I thought this might provide better insight to her as a person. It would be an honor to speak further with you. Thanks.
