My boyfriend went out and got an eight-week-old kitten today. Her name is Carmen. She’s a brown tabby with hazel eyes, long hair, white paws and a white bib. She looks like every other kitten in the world — that is, adorable. Pick her up and right away she starts purring like she’s got a little motor inside her.
That makes a current total of four pets: Carmen the cat, our two rats Gypsy and Belle, and Alley the chihuahua, who actually belongs to my boyfriend’s roommate.
That chihuahua is going to go insane.
Actually, the two of them haven’t exhibited anything more than mild curiosity for each other.
I’m wondering about the kitten, when it gets bigger, and the rats…
Rats are generally too big to be of much interest to cats for prey. Rats are also very capable of defending themselves. Mine are extremely friendly, not aggressive at all. I’m hoping they will be able to make friends with the kitten, but we’ll see. If not, they will always be safe inside their cage.
Oooh I love kittens!!! Even if they turn out to be ugly they are always so cute when they are little. We have a orange on with white feet named Layla whose about 6mos and a big black cat named Salem.
Where did he get this kitten? She sounds adorable; I would like to see pictures.
Some friend of a friend was giving them away. I will see about pictures.
My cat is a gnarled, unwieldy black one named Prester John. He was never a kitten.
I have known cats who have grown up with pet rodents and birds to be friendly, or at least tolerant, towards them. Only if the cats were left without food for a long time would I worry about it.
