Guilty plea in Donna Jou case

John Steven Burgess has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of Donna Jou. She accidentally overdosed on illegal drugs provided by Burgess, and he disposed of her body. It was never found.

“Murder without a body” cases seem to be increasing exponentially. I often do additions/updates on such cases several days in a row, or sometimes more than one a day.

I thought all this time his name was John Burgess?

Whoops. You’re right. I was thinking of someone else. *blushes, then correct entry*

One thing about this case that bothers me is how much the prosecutors and law enforcement are taking this guy at his word that it was an accidental overdose. It sounds very convenient. And if so, he then proceeds to dump her body in the Pacific Ocean. Mmmm…

They pretty much have to take his word for it, since they can’t disprove his story. Perhaps that’s what really happened. And even if it isn’t, at least he’ll serve SOME time.

Working at SDSU library admin., I know this case quite well. The problem with taking his word on it is that from now on there can never be a possible rebuttal to contradict his word (double jeopardy). Yes, he will be doing time. But to a parent, many questions linger in this case. One must take an impartial look at the case, the suspect, & the victim. The question is does it sound even remotely believable coming from this source? Check his record. I really appreciate this site, Meaghan. I can’t imagine the hard work it takes to keep it updated and kudos to you for doing so. If only there was a site that mentioned what unidentified Jane/John Doe’s have been positively eliminated as to being a match to missing person(s), the ball could really start moving in solving so many cases. Oh yeah, in DC, go see John F. Kennedy at Arlington Cemetery.

5 years, that’s it!! Is that what her life was worth? For a convicted sex offender, he should definately have gotten more. This piece of trash, will be out in 5 years and will do the same to some other girl. What a waste of space!!!
