Victory in Thompson case

By Meaghan

As others have noted, Aaron Thompson was convicted of 31 counts, including child abuse resulting in death in the case of his daughter Aarone, who was reported missing in 2005 but is believed to have been killed about two years before. Aaron was acquitted of 24 counts, mostly related to the alleged abuse of the seven other children in his household, but this is definitely a victory for the prosecution. He faces 48 years in prison.

The jury was out deliberating for over a week. It looks like they took their job seriously and I’m glad of it.

Now, if only Aaron would ‘fess up and tell us where the body is. But why should he do that, what does he have to gain? And why should a psychopath do something for nothing?

A psychopath-I’ve always preferred the term “sociopath” myself-WON’T do something for nothing. However, it should be remembered that in the hierarchy of prison inmates, criminals who harm children aren’t the bottom of the barrel. No, they’re the pile of (never mind) upon which the barrel rests. This fact was what weighed so heavily on the mind of Missouri’s Daniel Porter-so heavily, in fact, that he gave up the bodies of his kids Sam and Lindsey and took a life-without-parole plea deal rather than begin serving his existing sentence for kidnapping them in general population.

Perhaps some of Mr. Thompson’s more experienced jailmates should fill him in as to the reception he can expect when he finally gets to the state hotel, and prosecutors should consult his ex-wife as to whether she’d be willing to either forego further prosecution or at least take the death penalty off the table in return for giving her daughter the burial she deserves. With the only other person who knew where the body was-Shely Lowe-having already gotten her final justice, that’s the only way I see there being any futher resolution.

By the way, that was a super update you did on the casefile. The whole story in a nutshell from beginning to end with all the principal players and a clear chronology. Better than some news outlets.

That child deserves a proper burial. That’s the least he could do, is divulge her location. After all, he failed her as a Parent. We need a “Devils Island” for people like him. Drop them off and forget about it.

You are right about that. Psychopaths do nothing without an agenda benifiting them. He will not confess or lead law enforcement to her body unless he is offered a deal when he thinks he cannot get his sentence overturned on appeal. Until then, he will probably insist he is innocent.

I always suspected that Ted Bundy was interweaving lies with the truth during his confessions about his victims hours before he was executed in 1989 because he could. That was his way of screwing over society one last time. The State of Florida said they would not extend his execution date, so what did he have to lose?
